If you are looking for a common theme to link these songs together that you have already choosen, I would go wih the theme seasons. Create 4 scenes- Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. You can put some holiday songs within the seasons, but you do not have to solely focus on the holidays as a main theme. A seasons theme is a fairly easy & fun theme to put together for a dance recital. There are quite a few examples of seasonal recital themes on the blog. Good Luck!

  6. I am in need of a theme idea that incorporates cheer and hip hop teams, all different ages. Last year we did DECADES which went great, and was easy to find music, this year I am not sure! Any ideas?

  7. Here are a few ideas off the top of my head!
    1. A Patriotic Theme
    2. Dancing Diva Theme- Use songs such as Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Dancing Queen, Material Girl. You could also use songs from popular "girly" artists such as Miley Cyrus, Aly & AJ, Cheetah Girls, The Slumber Party Girls.
    3. High School Musical Theme- You could also incorporate music from Grease into the theme.
    4. iDance iCheer- Use the remakes of songs by Crazy Frog.
    5. Party Theme- Try songs such as Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride, La Bamba, Oye Como Va, Follow The Leader by Soca Boys, Let's Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez, Lady Marmalade, and We Like To Party.
    6. Sports Theme- Songs such as Chariots Of Fire, Gonna Make You Sweat, Get Your Head In The Game, Push It, We Will Rock You, Space Jam, The Cup Of Life, All Star by Smash Mouth, and Get Ready For This.
Let me know when you decide a theme! It sounds fun!

  12. I am in need of decoration ideas and songs for a dance recital themed as "Dance Upon A Dream"

  13. We need a "WOW" opening number for our concert - we've already used "Let Me Entertain You" (Robbie Williams) and "Celebration" (Lionel Richie) in the past. Our theme is "Ten Years On and Still Going Strong" to celebrate our 10th anniversay.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

  14. In response to the "Dance Upon A Dream" theme- One year I did a dance with girls in pagamas that performed with giant pillowcases. First they danced with them like they were blankets, then they were able to put their entire bodies in them and move. I used the song "Everything Is Going To Be All Right" from Jesus Christ Superstar. I made it a dream vs. bad dream theme. Another music suggestion is Pajamas from the children's album Night Songs And Lullabyes by Kim Scanlon. For props you could probably also do something fun with mattresses & pillows. Castle On A Cloud from Les Miserables and Any Dream Will Do from Joseph And The Technicolor Dreamcoat are also songs that comes to mind. For decorating you could use clouds, pixie dust and rainbows. For a modern dance, it would be really fun to do a piece where the dancers used pop up bubbles above their heads as props that expressed their thoughts, feelings, and dreams.

  15. In response to the reader that needs a "WOW" opening number for your 10th anniversary concert- Try reversing your grand finale and doing it as the opening of your show, instead of at the end. Have many group entrances and exits and fill the stage with all your dancers. Maybe group dancers by your 10 year students, your 5 year dancers, your 1st year dancers, etc... You will be gauranteed that your entire audience will be present and in prime form at the start of the performance. A lot of times by the end of the show people have left or are antsy to leave by grand finale time. The song 100 years, by Five For Fighting, comes to mind for this theme. Not for necessarily for the opening, but for a dance. Throughout the show you could also restage some of your favorite choreography throughout the years.

  16. I am trying to figure out our theme for this next year's recital. Last year we did "iPod Shuffle" and it turned out GREAT! I am thinking for this year doing "It Was All a Dream" & make it seem like the whole recital was all someone's dream. Throughout the recital we'd go back & forth between dreams & nightmares.. I'm just not sure how to pull it off and make it come off as one big dream. Any ideas/suggestions??

  17. I am in need of a Hip Hop/ Jazz song for a costume that is rainbows. Please if anyone has an idea it is greatly appreciated!!!

  18. Two songs come to the top of my head for rainbows. The song Nearly Missed by Elmo & Rosie O'Donnell. Very cute song for hip hop for younger students. It can be found on I-Tunes. Also the song Sunshine Day by the Brady Bunch. I've used it for jazz and did colorful hippy style costumes.

  19. To Jessica:
Awesome that you did the iPod shuffle theme last year. Did you get the idea from this blog? For your It Was All A Dream recital, maybe you can create some main characters & a storyline and do some acting between scenes. You could also do your own version of well known dream stories such as The Wizard Of Oz.

  21. I am trying to come up with a recital theme that incorporates family somehow? Anysuggestions? I have all kinds of groups from ballet to hip hop to cheer to baton twirling!

  22. Ooo- I love this theme. To use a family theme, try the idea of family photgraphs. Have a large picture frame on stage. Have a group pose as a family inside the picture frame and then have them step out and dance. You can also use the theme of family photo albums. Have different groups pose inside the picture frame then step out and dance and have them represent different events of life, such as birthday parties, births, graduations, family reunion, first day of school, prom, wedding, holidays, etc... Some music ideas are Enya, 100 Years, We Are Family, Come On To My House, Front Porch Looking In, The List. As I said, this theme is great. I love it!
