I have to tell you about my new favorite song! It is the song I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas from their new album The E-N-D! I love it and have been listening and dancing to this song all week!
If you watched the season priemere of the Oprah show kicking off her 24th season on tv, then you saw the Black Eyed Peas perform a slightly tweeked version of this song to open the show. Not only is the song fun, but the entire audience performed a flash mob dance choreographed to it on the magnificent mile in downtown Chicago! Comepletely Awesome! My roomate from college that I also danced with in the dance department got to dance in the audience. I was so jealous!! Anyway, I Gotta Feeling is an awesome song and is a great new hit for this years dance recital season. It would make a great opening number for a dance recital. And Hey- you could even have the audience perform their own flash mob dance at the beginning of your dance show. How cool would that be?

Musical Inspirations Of The Day

Going Green if a popular theme right now, and if you are looking for music about Going Green for your dance recital or classroom, here is a suggestion. I have discovered the children's album called Let's Go Green. It can be sampled on iTunes. The whole album sounds like fun, but check out the songs Let's Go Green, Recycle It, Solar Shuffle, and Clean Up The Planet Game.
Also check out the children's album Nature Notes For Little Folks by Maurren Conlin. There is a song on this CD also entitled Let's Go Green. This song has an interesting beat and has a tribal sound to it. It would be fun for younger dancers or a beginning hip hop class.
If you are dancing about Going Green in your dance recital this year, please tell me about it!!!!!

Musical Inspiration Of The Day!

Here is a new children's album that was featured on Live With Regis And Kelly this morning. The album is by Neil Sedaka and it is called Waking Up Is Hard To Do. The children's songs on the album are remakes of the popular songs that he wrote throughout his career, but the lyrics are changed to suit young kids. His grandchildren even sing with him on some of the songs.
I checked out this album on iTunes and some of the music would be very fun to use in dance class or for recital dances. The song Dinosaur Pet is great if you are looking for recital music for dancing dinosaurs. How many times have you seen those cute dinosaur costumes in the recital catalogs, but can never think of a unique dinosaur song besides Puff The Magic Dragon and Everybody Walk The Dinosaur. The song on the album called Where The Toys Are would be a nice ballet song for younger beginner ballet students dancing in a toy shop themed recital. The song Lunch Would Keep Us Together is just plain fun and would be cute to use during dance class. Laughter In The Rain could be used for tap dancing with umbrellas and raincoats and the song I Go Ape is a good choice if you were looking for a monkey jazz dance.
Browse this album and let me know what you think!

Musical Inspirations Of The Day

Here is a couple of my latest musical inspirations that I have recently downloaded.
My first is I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe! I had heard this song before, but what really inspired me is that last week I was at my Grandma's funeral and then yesterday the band sang this song when I was in church with my own family. At this particular time, this song was extra touching for me, along with the theme and sermon being about heaven. If you are looking for a great piece of music for a lyrical or contemporary dance, try this song. Paired with some awesome choreography and some simple dance dresses, this song could cause many eyes to weep in the audience!
My other new favorite song is actually a children's song. It is Clean Your Room by The Imagination Movers. The Imagination Movers is a singing group that has a children's TV show on the Disney Channel. My children watch this show often and really like their music. This particular song I really like. My kids and I like to dance around the room together when we hear this song. This piece of music would be great to use for a children's hip hop class or dance recital piece. If you haven't heard the song, take a listen and let me know what you think!
