Circus Theme



Dancing Under The Big Top


Act I


Scene I


"Lets Go To The Circus"


Before the curtain rises, play the song Circus Band (Dumbo) by All Clowns Band from the album Movies & TV Music.


Welcome To The Circus- Open the show by dancing to Join The Circus by Jim Davis & The Original Broadway Cast From Barnum.


The Greatest Show On Earth- Do a larger tap dancing production number with lots of glitter and sparkle and dance to Barnum And Bailey's Favorite from the album Forward March by the United States Army Band.


Ringmaster- Try using the song If My Friends Could See Me Now from the album Sounds Of The Circus South Shore Concert Band.


Circus Treats- Have smaller dancers dance to the song Peanust, Popcorn, & Cotton Candy by Dennis Massa from the Dennis Massa Sings Circus Songs/Kids Family Music album.


Scene II


"The Daredevils Of The Circus"


Flying Trapeze- Try the song The Man On The Flying Trapeze from the Countdown Kids album 150 All Time Childrens' Favorites.


Tightrope Walkers- Choreograph a dance to the song Tightrope by Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble and use straight lines or a balance beam.


Spinning Wheel- Dance to Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat, And Tears.


Human Cannonball- A possibility of song choice is Tchaikovsky's Cannonball (1812 Overture) by Beethoven's Wig from the album Sing Along Symphonies.


Acrobats- Do an acrobatic routine to I'll Tumble 4 Ya by Culture Club.


Balancing Act- Perform to the song Chariots Of Fire. Use colorful props, lifts, and different levels.
Act II
Scene III


"Circus Animals"


Lions- Dance to the song I'm A Mean Ole Lion from the Original Cast Recording Of The Wiz.


Tigers- Try the song suggestion The Tigher Bop by Peter Frampton from the CD Wallt Disney Records Archive Collection Volume 2. Older dancers could also be tighers and have them dance to the song Eye Of The Tiger.


Elephants- Small tumbling students can perform to Baby Elephant Walk by Henry Mancini.


Dancing Horses- Choose glittery costumes with a tall, Las Vegas style headdress hat and character shoes. Dance to the song Bring On The Dancing Horses by Echo & The Bunnymen.


Big Brown Burly Bears- Younger dancers can be costumed in teddy bear styled costumes and have them dance to Big Brown Burly Bears by Dennis Massa on the album Dennis Massa Sings Circus Songs/Kids Family Music. Have the dancers use balls as props.


Performing Dogs- Begging jazz students can be puppies and have them dance to Who Let The Dogs Out by the Baha Men. They can use hula hoops for props.


Scene IV


"Circus Sideshow"


Clowns- Turn dancers into clowns and perform to the song Be A Clown. Try the song from the motion picture De-Lovely.


Comedians- Continue on with the clown theme and dance to Make Em Laugh by Donald O'Connor on the album Dennis Massa Sings Circus Songs/Kids Family Music.


Fire Eaters- Use the song Some Like It Hot. If you can find someone to provide the training, learn how to perform simple fire eating skills. I've seen it done and it doesn't seem too hard if you can find someone who teaching basic circus skills. You could also try using glow stick props.


Jugglers- Use the song Juggler by Dennis Massa from the CD Dennis Massa Sings Circus Songs/Kids Family Music.


Contortionists- Choreograph tumbling along with modern dance and use the song Contortionist by Kitaro.


Circus Dancers- Choreograph a can can number and use the song Can Can (Moulin Rouge) by All Clown Band from the album Movies & TV Music.


Grande Finale- For the finale of the circus themed show, use the song Goodbye To The Circus by Aqua.
